CostumeCouture! |

There has always been a sense of theatrics entwined with fashion. Like costumes for the commoner, fashion allows us to portray a varying array of characters. From workweek-chic to weekend-glam, playing dress up is always in vogue. Abandoning the harder edge of fall, spring/summer silhouettes were replaced with a softer, more whimsical persona. Perhaps Halloween was on designers’ minds while dreaming up their latest creations. Little Miss Muffet gone couture pranced down the runway at Louis Vuitton, while Hussein Chalayan embraced a space age moment. Not to be outdone, king showman Alexander McQueen sent out paid tribute to the Edwardian period.

Pro Piece Lisa Arahon
No longer reserved for the goth-set, black nail polish is the nuvo-chic. First adopted by trend-setters Mischa Barton and Sienna Miller, black nails have quickly become a coveted look among celebs and office professionals alike. Chanels’ Black Satin is wait-listed across North America, and is being sold on e-bay for $80 a bottle. There has even been word that Sarah Michelle Gellar committed petty theft to acquire a bottle.
If you’ve been dying to go black, use the month of October to give it a try. We promise: you’ll never go back.
Favorite picks include: Chanel Black Satin and OPI Lincoln Park After Dark.
To avoid disaster, be sure your nails are short and well groomed.

Pearls…A style-staple synonymous with icons Coco Chanel, Jackie O and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Elegant. Classic. Subtle. Until now. Seen parading down the runway at Louis Vuiton is what can be best described as “pearls gone wild”. Aptly named Bubblegum Pearls, this necklace is not for the style subdued. Bold, dramatic and wickedly cheeky, you definitely won’t find these in your grandma’s jewelry box. |

Leave it to Sofia Coppola to tell the story of iconic Queen MarieAntoinette with a killer modern-day soundtrack. In juxtaposing 18 th century etiquette and costumes with a bold soundtrack, Ms Coppola has managed to retell the story of the ill-fated Queen in a unique and palatable way. The two-disc set includes songs from The Cure, Aphex Twin and The Strokes. As described by musical supervisor Brian Reitzell the soundtrack is “a post-punk-pre-new-romantic-rock opera odyssey with some 18th century music and some very new contemporary music.” - He took the words right out of our mouth.
